A Study on Chemical Anglysis and Dissolution of Gall Stone

Abstract
A study on the chemical analysis and dissolution of stones in various solvents in 68 cases of cholelithiasis who had received operation at Department of surgery, College of Medicine, Chonnam National University from april 1977 to June 1983 was performed.
The chemical analysis of stones from 68 patients revealed that most stones were of mixed type. Cholesterol, bilirubin and calcium stones comprised 17.7%, 64.7% and 13.2% of total cases respectively.
Heparin, sodium cholate, Tween 80, sodium hexametaphosphate and dimethylsulfoxide in vitro were found ineffective in dissolving the removed stones with various compositions. Monooctanoin, however, dissolved the cholesterol stones effectively. More than 10% by wei-ght of stones composed of over 50% cholesterol was dissolved by monooctanoin perday at 37?C.
Above results suggested that several new dissolvent agents for stones other than cholest-erol stone should be sought.
